What is Darakaraka?
In Maharishi Jaimini's system of Vedic astrology, the seven planets from Sun to Saturn are ranked by their degree within their own sign. The planet with the highest degree becomes the Atmakaraka (soul karaka), and the planet with the lowest degree becomes the Darakaraka — the karaka of the spouse and marriage.
While the 7th house and Venus describe the marriage from a Parashari lens, Darakaraka adds a deeply personal Jaimini layer — pointing to the temperament, profession and karmic role of the partner you're meant to meet.
How to read each Darakaraka
Sun
Sun as Darakaraka

Mars

Spouse is bold, action-driven, protective, athletic and sometimes argumentative.
Mercury
Mercury as Darakaraka
Spouse is intelligent, witty, communicative, youthful in appearance and adaptable.
Jupiter

Venus

Saturn

Darakaraka is a single signal in a much larger picture. A complete marriage assessment also looks at the 7th house, its lord, Venus and Jupiter, Navamsa (D9), Mangal & Nadi dosha and current Dasha periods.
